Memory Quilt Paintings: The images below only reference quilts, and though their surfaces are host to many non-art materials such as lint, handmade paper and cat fur, they are paintings. This series functions as personal archive and are a site to process my memories and interpret research into craft/hobbyism's related proesses. I've made one a year since 2019.
Square Paintings: I think of these as memorials for/portals to places I can no longer physically access. Like dioramas, they are constructed from similar material used in the original sites.
Biography: Billy Frolov was born in Buffalo, New York in 1992 and moved with her family to Woodbridge, Virginia around the millennium. After studying briefly in Tokyo, she settled in Los Angeles and earned a BFA from ArtCenter College of Design in 2018. In 2020, she co-founded The Hermitage LA, an artist-run project space. Her work has been featured by New American Paintings, American Illustration Annual, YNGSPC, and The Buffalo Spree. She currently teaches art, curates exhibitions, and shows her work in Los Angeles and beyond.
